The picture chilled my soul

Opening up the Toronto Star

It was the picture of the school

The windows were broken

The school was a haunted house

I thought I saw the ghostly shadows of the girls

I quickly closed the paper

The year was 1999

Breaking the silence

The year was 1991.

Two women were being treated by the same psychologist

They did not know each other, but their stories were similar

They had both suffered abuse at the Galt Training for girls.

The school was renamed The Grandview School for girls.

The psychologist introduced the girls to each other

This was the first crack in the silence

The women told their stories

They appeared on television urging other women to come forward

The Ontario Police services in Kitchener, Ontario began an invesitigation

1n 1999 then member of Parliament, Jim Flaherty

apologized on behalf of the Ontario Government

For the abuses suffered

I was included in that group.

My book - Outside the Gate details in dialogue and drama

My experience in the school

of assault and isolation

In January 2002, Fred Kauffman, Q.C., released the Kauffman Report.

"Many of the girls were subjected to physical, sexual, and psychological abuse by family members.

Some were orphans and some were from people too vulnerable to care for them.

Several students suffered from abuse that occurred during the mid-1960's to the 1970's.

Truth of their stories

Call through the years

Revealing the shame

Revealing their tears.

Truth breaks the silence

exposing the violence

Love is listening

Truth is whispering

Through the silence

The children speak

Love does not break

The bruised reed.

"A bruised reed he will not break and a smoldering wick he will not snuff out.

In faithfulness he will bring forth justice;

He will not falter or be discouraged

Until he establishes justice on earth."
